Commander J.W.Linton VC

I am the unofficial biographer of Commander J.W.Linton VC.
He played Rugby in the 1920-1930s for the Royal Navy,United services,Hampshire and he also had a trial for England.
I am trying to find match reports and photographs of these teams and I was wondering if any of you can help me please?

Depending where you live your local library membership may give you access to the Times or other national newspapers online archives. This is a good place to start! You should find reports of most major matches/trials etc.

Have you tried the Royal Navy Union for pics etc?

Do you have a good 'match list' or are you starting from scratch?

I have a photograph of him in the RN team of 1927 and the RNRFU handbook lists his appearances for them. It is his other playing activities I know nothing about.I think he stopped playing in 1937.Was there a Hampshire county team at this time and how can I find out more about his trial for England?

There certainly was a Hampshire team in this period - they won the county championship in 1933 & 1936!

As to his England trial I am afraid that it will take legwork! I would start with the years that he played for the RN & do an online search in a digital archive if it were me

Having done just that Linton played for the Whites (probables) at Leicester in 1927 in the England Trial.
