Cyril Lowe, Blackheath and England
Hullo Chaps,
Can anyone confirm the assertion on the Rugby Pioneers blog that P G Wodehouse wrote a poem called The Great Day inspired by Cyril Lowe?
I can find no record of it and wondered if anyone else had come across it?
Many thanks.
Pip pip,
Tim

Re: Cyril Lowe, Blackheath and England
Tim,
I once wasted a morning idly surfing and trying to find a copy of this, to no avail!
I know that Wodehouse was an Old Alleynian, which might explain his particular interest in Lowe!
Also I think that I found a reference to this poem in 'One amongst Equals' by Steve Lewis rather than Rugby Pioneers which doesnt actually get us any closer to reading it!
Should anyone have a copy.........

Re: Cyril Lowe, Blackheath and England
Hullo Adrian,
Whilst undertaking a similar exercise this very evening I decided to take a break and open the parcel that had arrived from a well-known book distributor named after a South American river. The book held within was For Poulton and England by James Corsan (which from what I have read so far seems rather good, if not a slightly embellished, modern re-working of Edward Poulton's 1919 Ronald Poulton). To my surprise The Great Day is published within these pages and makes for some humorous reading. Though, I cannot be sure if it is the full text or an excerpt. I suspect the former.
I would thoroughly recommend getting the book to read not just this poem but to see some fascinating photographs and personal memories of Ronnie.
